Here is a simple way for you to check out the Short Interest on stocks you either hold or might be considering as investments. Firstly you can go direct to the FCA website, I know it looks like it is out of date, but if you click the download link on the page you get a spreadsheet of the latest disclosures.
Second if you want to get a handle on directors dealings then head over to Digital Look and sign up for a free account if you don't already have one. Then set yourself up a portfolio or watch list and then click through to Portfolio & market Alerts where you can get weekly updates on directors dealings, your portfolio (daily if you want) and lots of other reports you can choose from. I find this service really useful and the Portfolio functionality is quite good too for a free service. This allows you to see all the news items on stocks in your portfolio plus other breakdowns of your stocks like FTSE % etc.
Another free service I use for keeping track of RNS (news) announcement on my stocks is from Investegate. Here if you sign up for a free account you can get e-mails on all the announcements for your stocks and see them all plus history at a glance on the web. It also has useful pre set filters for FTSE. MID, Small and AIM categories plus a most read category which is useful if you don't have time to plough through all the announcements. A similar e-mail service is offered by the London Stock Exchange (if you sign up for a free account) which I've tried to a limited extent, but I don't find their news portal as user friendly as Investegate, although they have good data and charts on stocks.
Hopefully you may find these useful if you don't already know about or use them. Personally I find I end up using several different services to keep track of everything, there are also many more similar sites out there but so far I have never found one place that can do everything, although Stockopedia comes close, but it does require a subscription.
I plan to do a post soon on the best portfolio monitoring tools that I have found, so if that is of interest to you then don't forget to check back or sign up for free 12 noon e-mail updates which go out on days that post are published. You can also leave feedback at the link to the right or on the feedback tab above to let me know if there is something you would like to see more of or anything else you would be interested in seeing on here.
