Well there goes July and August beckons for the holiday month or festival time perhaps? Talking of which I saw a good post by another FIRE blogger called the Escape Artist on advice for City types attending festivals. Even if you are not a City type and you are not attending a festival, it is well worth checking out here as it is very funny and takes the Mickey out of City types. He also has some other interesting stuff on the site for people aspiring to achieve financial independence too.
Any way you'll be pleased to know that with the recovery in markets since the Greek crisis was fudged again that the Monthly timing indicators have returned to saying buy / be invested for all the main UK indices - so yet another whipsaw there then. Otherwise I have updated the Scores and the Mechanical Portfolio for the month end. The portfolio was slightly ahead of the market again this month with a 2.52% total return compared to 2.4% from the All Share. This was not a bad outcome given that FTSE led the way last month and the portfolio is heavily skewed to Mid Cap and AIM stocks. This takes it to a 9.73% total return since inception in early April 2015 which compares with -0.15% for the All Share over the same time period.
I will do a more in depth update on the stocks and the performance of the Portfolio in a post next week before I myself go into holiday mode for August when the news flow should subside somewhat. So don't expect a post every day in August but I'll try and do some if there is something interesting to write about or if I get some inspiration. But don't forget you can always sign up at the site for a free e-mail which goes out at noon on days when there is a new post on the site.
So that's all for now, have a great weekend and meanwhile enjoy a weird song appropriate to today's post called:
Festival Time from Life's hard then you die by It's Immaterial - which says it all really.
